ABOUT KIKAPU

Make/Model: Wharram Narai MKI

Year: 1982, Scotland

In July of 2022, KIKAPU changed ownership for the first time in nearly 40 years. After the previous owner sailed her from Scotland to the San Francisco Bay in the 80s, KIKAPU was left, nearly untouched, for decades in the South Bay. When I found her, she was full of rot and was affectionately known around the marina as the “pigeon coop”. I spent the next year doing what many deemed impossible, making her seaworthy again on a very tight budget. This included replacing the entire deck, stripping and redesigning the interior, repowering, updated the electrical, some controversial repairs with Flex Seal, and so much more.

She left the slip for the first time under her own power in August of 2023 and we left the Bay 3 months later. Since then, she has sailed over 2,000 nautical miles down the California coast, West Coast of Baja and the entire Sea of Cortez to where she is currently hauled out for more extensive repairs. Through this journey, KIKAPU has become a loyal companion and an extension of myself. I am beyond proud of her and grateful for all of the voyages that she carried me safely from port to port.
